Recently, your son or daughter saw a short presentation about, or, has shown interest in, being involved in the
District Scout Gang Show. This section gives you a few more details about what is involved.
The Letchworth & Baldock District Scout Gang Show was started back in 1955 and since that time there have only been 10 years when the show was not performed. The Gang Show is essentially a variety show consisting
of songs, sketches and dancing, both modern and traditional, that is performed by members of the local Scout & Guide movements and is fully supported by both Scouting and Guiding Districts.. Most of the cast is made up from young people, and they are supported by a team of adults who are all leaders within the Scout or Guide Movements. There are always male and female leaders present at rehearsals and at St Francis Theatre. All helpers and leaders have CRB clearance.
The team have been working on Gang Show 2017 for the last six months and we have just started rehearsals.
The 2017 Shows will take place at St Francis College Theatre, on Friday 31st March (7:30pm), and Saturday 1st April (2:00pm and 7:30pm)
We will have at least two full dress rehearsals, on Sunday 26th March (2.00pm) and Wednesday 29th March (6.30pm).
There is an annual show fee of £10 per cast member, and, £5 for each additional sibling. This fee will help cover the rising costs of producing Gang Show; theatre hire, rehearsal facilities, costumes and also help to improve the sound, lighting and staging of each show, so, that we can continue to deliver a high quality production.
If you undertake to participate in Gang Show, we expect you to attend as many rehearsals as possible and it is essential to attend each dress rehearsal and show. If you miss three consecutive rehearsals without us knowing we will assume you are taking no further part. We expect good behaviour at rehearsals and will operate a code of conduct, which will be explained to the cast.
All rehearsals this year will be held at 1st Baldock Scout HQ in Park Drive, Baldock. No uniform is required for rehearsals, just wear comfortable clothing and trainers/soft shoes. If you want to bring drinks and snacks, please do so, but, No nuts or fizzy drinks. Cubs and Brownies who will move up to Scouts and Guides before the Show dates must attend the later rehearsal time.
Please bring with you, or submit electronically, the permission form as it will help us to process cast names and numbers at the first rehearsal quickly.
We will have a rehearsal CD available immediately at a cost of £1. Last year a lot of people found this an excellent way of being able to practise at home. We provide you all with a songbook and scripts of sketches.
You may be asked to provide some basic items for costumes (white shirt, casual clothes, for example), but these are items that you are likely have in your wardrobe. However, we do ask that you purchase the Gang Show uniform items of a t-shirt (printed with our logo), a red scarf (with embroidered logo) and a special woggle (with foil logo), which will cost approx £12 for all 3 items.
All the information you need will be passed on at rehearsals or via email or letter. It will also be available on the website. As rehearsals progress, there will be a blog, and, the songbook and scripts for sketches will be added.
We will require parent help, either, at rehearsals or once we get to St. Francis Theatre. If you are able to help, even if it is only on one or two occasions, then please let us know on the attached permission form, as all adults who help us will need to complete a clearance form prior to helping us. I hope you all understand that this is not only for the benefit of your children, but, for yourselves as well.
We would also appreciate any help making scenery, costumes and with front of house and crew. Don’t worry if you volunteer, we will not ask you to become any more involved than you want to.
